Wind Ensemble to Present Spring Concert Feb. 25 Share Tweet Email LinkedIn 02/19/20 Top News University Wide All Inclusive person’s nameLee University’s Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. David Holsinger, will perform on Tuesday, Feb. 25, in the Conn Center at 7:30 p.m., marking the first concert of the semester and the third concert in the 2019-2020 school year. Back to its full 52-member contingent, the Wind Ensemble will present a varied and dramatic program of music featuring well-known composers such as Dmitri Shostakovich, David Maslanka, Vaclav Nelhybel, and American march giants, Karl King and John Philip Sousa. Among the compositions being performed are “Requiem” by Maslanka and “City Symphony” by Holsinger, three movements written over a seven-year stretch of time. Marches include Vasilij Agapkin’s classic 1914 “Slavic Farewell,” Karl King’s “Invictus,” written for the Ringling Brothers Circus, and a Sousa march written for the 300th anniversary celebration of the Jamestown settlement, “Powhatan’s Daughter.”The Lee University Wind Ensemble is committed to the highest level of performance of instrumental ensemble literature for winds and percussion. This group is a non-traveling organization that performs for special concerts on the Lee University campus.
